"Painted in fall of 1938. A portrait of the Aste house in early autumn, the Aste house being the next one beyond me in the Buckland village on the other side of the road toward Ashfield. One of my especially perfect canvases. Sold at the Founders Exhibition of the Grand Central Art Galleries, N. Y. being drawn by lot - 1940 - do not know who owns it as these galleries refuse to tell."
It is always a tough choice when you have multiple images of a painting but each have inherent flaws. In most cases the sepia is the preferred choice, except when it is blurred for whatever reason. The image above, while missing the contrast and detail of the sepia... is a cleaner image. It is hard to look at a blurred image without eye strain.
A painting of the old Aste house on Upper Street in Buckland Center, Mass.
