"Robert Strong Woodward has captured a riot of color"

There is a much larger painting (30 x 36) of the same scene which is named An October Pasture.

There are actually several paintings of the Goodnow Pasture, some with the Holsteins and others without. Actually we do not think the appearance of this painting is by mere happenstance. In April, the very same year, Woodward sent the painting From An Autumn Pasture that had not exhibited since 1933 to his good friend's gallery in Los Angeles, California. This was not an uncommon practice for the artist. He often sent many of his favorite scenes to the West coast, with a similar matching canvas somewhere on the East coast.

In this case, it is very possible that Woodward painted this painting from From An Autumn Pasture, specifically for the Williams exhibit and then sent, From An Autumn Pasture to Harold Grieve shortly after.
