"...the pastel works - they're just fantastic. And I'm afraid that they photograph very well but you don't really appreciate the difficulty of making them until you see them up close. That as you know with pastel, you have to be very very good to make it work, because it hard to correct a mistake. With oil paint it's much easier to cover over the error. But these are really really spectacular."
Woodward did not include his chalk drawings in his painting diary.
For some time this drawing's name was "unknown" to us. We only had an old grainy black and white image to go by and therefore it was found in our "Unnamed" gallery.
We wish to extend our hearfelt thank you to the current owner who contacted us and provided us the excellant pictures you see.
It is believe but not yet confirmed this farm was most likely called "Burkhart House." Below, are
pictures of the farm supplied by relatives of the family that lived there. We have recently learned that the house burned down in 1990.
