1919 Peoria Journal Transcript, April 20

Article Summary

This article announces Woodward's participation in Bradley Institute's upcoming art exhibition. It also mentions that RSW exhibited 7 paintings, however, we are only aware of 4 of them.

This was a fairly big homecoming for Woodward who attended the school from 1902 to 1906 receiving his high school diploma in 1904 and remainding on scholarship as a teaching assistant in Literature and taking college prepatory classes. He would leave Peoria in 1906, the same year he suffered the accident that left him paralysed .

We learned from this article:

  • Professionally, he sold his first painting in July of 1918

  • The Boston Art Club was his first professional exhbition

  • His first entry to the National Academy was their Winter show
