"Painted prior to 1922 (was painting this on Armistice Day). One of the two early canvases of mine owned by Dr. and Mrs. B. Thurber Guild, Barkers Point Road, Sand Point L. I. , N Y. Dr. Guild took a share of the price of this canvas to cancel doctor's bills I owed. Shelburne Falls village across the river."
A handwritten note by RSW on a Christmas card from the Guilds' (seen to the right) help us put the picture with a name. After reviewing RSW's diarys for paintings sold to the Guilds it was determined the painting RSW was referencing is Across the Stream.
The above image was taken from the image to the right, thus the poor quality. However, you get a pretty good idea of this artwork's beauty... the farm house and other various buildings and structures, the reflection off the water, and the trees on the left.
