From Our Forefathers, 1941

Given the name, we imagine that this chalk would most likely be an aged tree along a roadside or perhaps shading a home. The trees he is referring to are maple trees he called "Maple Guardians." We looked up the name but could not find any information. See paintings like Maple Guardians or From Our Forefathers to see what we mean.

The drawing exhibited in 1937 which means it was show-worthy.

"The farm next to my much painted 'Halifax House', old N.E. house with large guardian maples."
