Robert Strong Woodward - Painter of New England Scenes - Cora and the Amaryllis

CORA AND THE AMARYLLIS

25 X 30
Still life in old studio.

Diary Comments:
“Painted around 1932.   Made in the old studio which burnt.   The doll belonged to my grandmother Woodward and to Aunt Tella.”

Comments on the back of a sepia print:
“Coral red amaryllis in dull green pot.   Old bisque doll  (“Cora”)  belonging to my great aunt, in faded purple silk dress.”

Notes:
"A quaint old doll in faded purple silk leaning against the pot of an amaryllis lily in bloom, all against a background of many books."

"February 5, 1932:  Started new canvas of 'Cora and the Amaryllis', painting all day."
