RSW's Diary Comments

Unfortunately for us, Woodward did not keep records of his chalk drawings.

Additional Notes

This is a very unusual perspective of Mount Greylock. We cannot tell if it is from North Adams, or Florida, or perhaps Plainfield.

While we do not have an exact date for the chalk drawing, there appears to be evidence of some mold. The mold helps us narrow that time period down to the early 1930s. A bad batch of pastels, either poorly stored or got wet unfortunately spoiled a number of paintings from that time.

This painting now hangs in the Pocumtuck Valley Memorial Association (PVMA) Museum, Deerfield, MA, along with: Farmer's Castle and Through Summer Hills (Chalk)
